The Tricky One
During June, our toughest question was: In which country was the company Montblanc founded? Only 5.5% of Quizified players correctly identified Germany, the country where the luxury pen maker was founded in 1906. The majority went with Switzerland (59.4%) or France (33.8%), which isn't surprising after all, the name "Montblanc" literally means "White Mountain" in French, and Mont Blanc itself is the highest peak in the Alps, straddling the border between France and Italy, close to Switzerland.
Montblanc’s founders - an engineer, a banker and a stationer, originally called their start-up the Simplo Filler Pen Company. They adopted the Montblanc name in 1910 to evoke Europe’s highest Alpine peak and signal a “pinnacle quality.” Today the firm still designs and assembles its writing instruments in Hamburg (it’s now part of the Swiss-based Richemont group), but its logo represents the snow-capped summit of Mont Blanc, and its boutiques exude Swiss-French chic.
